I have absolutely loved Tern since buying one of the first North American D8 Short Hauls. The product is superior, accessories are next-level for all conditions/use-cases, and I feel like I got a great value.
I have almost every Tern accessary and ride loaded down everyday year round. The Duostand (Gen3) that I'm reviewing specifically let me down. When deployed, it's planted and not too much is going to knock it over. Quality is there too, but it weighs a ton which is bad for my non-Bosch cargo. Worst of all is the bounce, rattle, and vibration that occurs ever time I hit a bump. The spring is just not strong enough. Result is the opposite of ever other finely engineered Tern accessory experience I've had prior. You get what you pay for and Tern is usually worth every penny. The Duostand (Gen3) at $160 given it's flaws is a hard stop.
So do I have the time and energy to return it, research alternatives, and coat-stand my bike until I solve this problem? Or will I spend time and money trying to find a proper aftermarket spring? I shouldn't have to do either.
I’d expect the best at this price. I installed the kickstand and used it for less than 10 days when the spring fell off… couldn’t believe it was less than 10 days til I wrote this and checked. To be exact it was 7 days from installation and not using. CRAZY. Would not invest in this.
I bought this center stand to install on a Lectric Xpedition 2.0 to get rid of the horrendous factory center stand. The build quality of this Tern center stand is superb. Clean welds, perfect powder coated finish, a well thought-out design with crisp action and positive stops at each end. Secure height adjustment of the legs. However paying almost $200 with tax and shipping was very painful.
